Workers’ Compensation
Workers’ Compensation is insurance that provides wage replacement benefits and/or medical coverage for workers who are injured or fall ill as a result of their job, regardless of who is at fault. Most employers are required to carry and pay for Workers’ Compensation insurance at no cost to their employees. Wage replacement benefits and medical care are paid by the employer’s insurance carrier, as directed by the Workers’ Compensation Board. The Board is a state agency charged with overseeing the Workers’ Compensation system.
Sounds simple, right? Unfortunately, injured workers often come to discover the Workers’ Compensation system is not as straightforward as it seems. Indeed, the insurance industry has worked for decades to stack the deck in its favor, forcing workers to fight for the benefits they are entitled to.
This is where the Law Office of Phillip V. Urban comes in. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) & Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
SSDI and SSI are federal benefits programs that provide assistance to persons who meet the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) requirements for disability. SSDI eligibility is determined based on an applicant’s work history, while SSI is a means-based program intended for those with limited income and resources. To qualify for either program, the applicant must be unable to work because of a medical condition that is expected to last at least one year or result in death. In evaluating your SSDI or SSI claim, SSA will consider all of the applicant’s injuries and/or illnesses, regardless of how they occurred.
The process of applying for SSDI and SSI benefits can be extremely frustrating. If your initial application is denied (as most are), you may need to appear for a hearing in front of a federal Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) to present your case on appeal. SSDI and SSI cases can often take years to work their way through the appeals process. Regardless of the stage or age of your SSDI/SSI case, the attorneys at the Law Office of Phillip V. Urban may be able to help. Our attorneys have skillfully navigated the SSDI/SSI process and secured benefits for hundreds of clients. Call us today to see if we can help you.
